When Lula came in financial markets were worried – but he became their friend – of course the culture wars continued but the reason he was tolerated was that he did help rich people make money
This is an FT interview with Burnham from a couple of days ago
So far George Parker of the FT is talking about Burnham from the perspective of protecting the rich, his FT readers, and you wouldn’t expect anything less
They open by talking about the recent Sainsbury’s stunt in which Burnham announced
It’s particularly disgusting to see Pat McFadden there who, like Michael Gove, never seems to go away. He is the guy who cleared Peter Mandelson to be US ambassador despite him failing his vetting. His WhatsApps to Mandelson were also revealed in which he, while Minister for the Cabinet Office, moaned about his colleagues asking who they needed to tax in order to pay the welfare bill. Now he’s in charge of the DWP where he will inflict those cuts. It’s bad economics as well being completely inhumane – people will die in this country as a result of his policies – but this is psychopathic politics so no change there
They mention Thames Water, on the campaign trail in Makerfield Burnham said he was up for it – now he says he hasn’t decided – but the FT reporters conveniently forget to mention that he hired James Purnell former CEO of Flint Global, a lobby firm that was set up by a Thames Water director and which has a division devoted to protecting water company profits from state confiscation.
There are huge conflicts of interest with Purnell but no reporter ever mentions him
Sunday Times have a Royal scoop today – turns out Camilla’s sister is on the payroll and this was not always declared
This is about Christopher Harborne and his military interests
