By telling the public that he’s waiting for the Supreme Court case about the Deproscription of Palestine Action Ed Miliband gives the impression that the UK Government never Proscribed Palestine Action in the first place – leading to hundreds of pointless arrests.
Shabana Mahmood was in the Starmer government when she decided to appeal against the high court decision to deproscribe Palestine Action
Now that Burnham has kept her on as Home Secretary, she has not abandoned the government position.
I suppose she can’t just reverse her position now that Burnham is in – and it’s Palestine Action who are taking the government to the Supreme Court so Mahmood can hardly drop a case which isn’t hers –
If Burnham had actually won an election then I suppose he could simply deproscribe – but equally he could deproscribe now too – but the court case is already up and running – do you think the government want to lose it? That is the impression Miliband is giving – or perhaps they will win the case and then immediately deproscribe – that would make the law look like an ass meanwhile this case has the overbearing whiff of nothing but an arse covering exercise.
